XDC ≠ XDC Network ≠ any single company. XDC is the network's native digital asset. XDC Network is the open-source blockchain. Organizations, developers, validators and community participants support the ecosystem, but those roles should not be confused with the token or the blockchain itself.
What Is XDC?
XDC is the native utility asset of the XDC Network. It is used for transaction fees, value transfer and settlement, and it participates in the network's validator and security model. Applications built on XDC Network can also use XDC when interacting with smart contracts and network services.
What Is the XDC Network?
XDC Network is an open-source, enterprise-oriented Layer 1 blockchain. It supports smart contracts and decentralized applications and is EVM compatible, allowing many Ethereum-style development tools and smart contracts to be used with limited changes.
History & Origins
XDC Network was founded in 2017. Official XDC materials identify Atul Khekade and Ritesh Kakkad as co-founders. The project developed around enterprise blockchain use cases, with a particular focus on global trade, payments and financial infrastructure.
Who Supports the Network?
XDC is best understood as an ecosystem rather than as a token owned by one operating company. Validators operate network infrastructure, developers build the protocol and applications, and ecosystem organizations and community participants support adoption, development and education.
How XDC Network Works
The network uses XDPoS, its delegated proof-of-stake consensus framework. XDC 2.0 incorporates a Chained HotStuff-based consensus design intended to provide deterministic finality and resilient validator coordination. Validators and masternodes are central to block production and network security.
EVM Compatibility
XDC Network is EVM compatible. This matters because developers can build or adapt Ethereum-style smart contracts and decentralized applications while using XDC Network's own consensus, fee structure and infrastructure.
Trade Finance & Payments
Trade finance has been a central XDC use case from the project's early development. The network is designed to support digital settlement, cross-border payments, trade-related applications and infrastructure that can connect blockchain systems with enterprise financial processes.
Real-World Asset Tokenization
XDC Network supports the creation and management of blockchain-based representations of real-world assets and financial instruments. Its smart-contract environment is used for tokenization projects alongside DeFi, stablecoin, supply-chain and other enterprise applications.
